Buffalo wins bid for 2018 World Junior Championships

According to the Buffalo News, the city of Buffalo won the bid to host the World Junior Championships in 2018. It will be the second time Buffalo hosts the tournament since 2010.

Winning the bid for the second time makes Buffalo the first American city to host the tournament twice. Clearly the renovations done in downtown Buffalo have impressed people around the hockey world.

In even better news, there will be an outdoor aspect to the tournament. The Ralph Wilson stadium will end up hosting a matchup between USA and Canada. Perhaps with the NHL Winter Classic lining up the same week, owner Terry Pegula could attempt to get both events here.

Buffalo beat out two other big hockey markets in St. Louis and Pittsburgh. Although it isn't the Olympics, this is another huge step in making Buffalo a go-to attraction.

Buffalo is indeed hockey town.
