According to Jonathan Drouin's agent, the 2013 3rd overall pick requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning. This came to light over the past day after Drouin was sent down to he Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Steve Yzerman addressed the trade request with the media, essentially saying that he expects Drouin to report to Syracuse, and not going into light on any trade possibilities. The Tampa Bay Times listed Toronto, Nashville, St. Louis, and Buffalo as possible trade fits.

The Sabres should absolutely be calling on Drouin, and I would expect that Tim Murray has contacted Yzerman about him. The question will be what does Yzerman want, even if he would trade Drouin?

Drouin to this point in his very young career has actually produced better then most people think. He has 6 goals and 34 assists in 89 games. However, he has had very little ice time. His points per 60 minutes rival some of the great young players i the league such as Nathan MacKinnon and Sean Monahan

The price for Drouin will be heftier than some fans think. Looking around social media, the most common name when talking about Drouin trades is Matt Moulson. That's not going to happen. Moulson has a decent cap hit, and the Lightning already need to make room to try and sign Steven Stamkos. A more realistic price would be a future 1st round pick or a 2nd this season, a B level prospect like a Connor Hurley, and a role player in the NHL like a Marcus Foligno

Drouin would fit in nicely with the Sabres. Dan Bylsma needs to find a winger that fits well with Jack Eichel. To this point he hasn't been able to develop chemistry with anyone. Drouin's skill set could compliment Eichel well. His playmaking ability could get Eichel into easier scoring opportunities. Many of Eichel's goals are created by himself with little help. Drouin could create create create for him.
